Blogging updates throughout the evening when necessary.

7:30pm: The severe threat is diminishing. Moderate to at times heavy rain continues from Blue Ridge to Murphy and Hayesville. This should continue through 8:30pm. It will be possible for some t-shower redevelopment overnight, but not as strong as what we had earlier today.

6pm: Strongest cell locally is in Gilmer County stretching north to south across the county with Ellijay right in the heart of this storm. Heavy rain and the threat of damaging wind gusts continues. This cell should move into the southern flank of Fannin County and eventually southern Towns County between now and 6:45pm…..in Monroe County near Tellico Plains, the same conditions are occurring and a warning remains in effect. Elsewhere, the severe threat is diminishing, but moderate to at times heavy rain continues from Bledsoe county eastward to Meigs County.

5:20pm: 2 strong cells currently. The first in Polk County along the Ocoee River near Parksville and extends southward into Murray and Fannin County in GA just west of Blue Ridge. Again, heavy downpours with frequent lightning strikes can be expected. In Chattooga County, GA from Menlo to Lyerly and Summerville, this cell is slowly dropping southward to Floyd County….Many of these storms have produced upwards of 2-3 inches of rain. So, the silver lining out of all of this is the much needed rain that fell along with the prospects of more rain Wednesday.

4:40pm: Worst cell at the moment is from Collegedale to Apison southward to Cohutta. Damaging wind gusts and frequent cloud to ground lightning strikes are occurring. This cell will continue to move east toward Bradley County…We have had numerous reports all around the viewing area of downed trees and power lines along with several car accidents. Please be careful out there!

4:10pm: Big, slow moving cell in the downtown area producing torrential downpours and even some small hail. This cell is slowly moving east toward Tyner and Collegedale. Damaging wind gusts could also accompany this storm as it migrates into Bradley County. This same cell is soaking Harrison, Red Bank and East Ridge. And, it expands southward to near Fairview and Rossville.

3:15pm: Warnings continue for Hamilton/Rhea/Bledsoe and Sequatchie until 3:30pm ET……..Strongest cell near Soddy Daisy moving southeast toward Middle valley, Lakesite and Shady Grove with a high potential of lightning and heavy rain. This cell is also capable of producing damaging wind gusts…..Strong cell in Franklin County, TN moving east toward Grundy and Marion County. Winchester to Sewanee experiecing heavy downpours and up to 45 light strikes in the past hour (Live Cam link from Sewanee). This cell will continue moving east toward Monteagle, Tracy City and southward eventually affecting Orme and S. Pittsburg.

2:40pm: Thunderstorm Warnings continue in effect for Hamilton/Rhea/Grundy/ Sequatchie/Bledsoe County in Tennessee and Walker/Chattooga County in Georgia (until 3pm ET)……Strong cells were located in Dunlap with heavy rain and frequent lightnings strikes. This cell will continue moving east over eastern Sequatchie and into Hamilton County by 3pm….An elongated cell on the Sequatchie/Hamilton/Bledsoe/Rhea County line is also producing the risk of heavy rain and lightning, along with the potential of damaging wind gusts. This cell will move eastward and affect Dayton, Graysville, Sale Creek and Soddy Daisy between now and 3:15pm…..In Georgia, A strong cell near Davis Crossroads is moving southeast and will continue to affect that area through Lafayette and Naomi……2 cells will affect Chattooga County with the first just west of Trion moving southeast and should move through Summerville…The other on the southern tip of the county will close in on Lyerly. Heavy rain and lightning can also be expected with both cells.
